Miami RedHawk Hockey Game NotesRPI (3-12-1) at #3 Miami (11-3-3)Dec. 14, 2008 • Steve Cady Arena• Miami’s x-x victory over RPI was its eighth straight, improving its record to 12-3-3. The RedHawks’ last loss occurred on November 8, 2-1 against Ferris State. Miami’s 12 victories ties it with Notre Dame (12 wins) for second most, nationwide, behind 14-2 Air Force.• Today’s game was nationally televised by ESPNU.• Miami outscored RPI by a eight-goal margin this weekend (3-1 and 7-1), the most lop-sided two-game margin of 2008-09.• Miami’s weekend scoring totals: JAROD PALMER (1-1-2); CARTER CAMPER (0-2-2); JUSTIN MERCIER (1-0-1); BRIAN KAUFMAN (1-0-1); CHRIS WIDEMAN (0-1-1)• RPI scored on a two-man advantage last night, marking only the sixth time in 106 opportunities that Miami opponents have tallied on power-play chances. Sunday afternoon, the Engineers were xx of xx, improving the RedHawks penalty kill success to xx of xxx.• With the victory, Miami coach Rico Blasi’s all-time improved to 199-141-31.• Miami’s WILL WEBER scored his first collegiate goal at 4:58 of the first period, giving the RedHawks a 1-0 lead. His only other point was an assist in game three at Vermont. It also was the first goal scored by any member of Miami’s freshman class in 2008-09. Later in the first period, at 18:52, another RedHawk freshman, ALDEN HIRSCHFELD, scored his first career goal.• With his two goals against RPU Sunday afternoon, Miami’s TOMMY WINGELS had his first multiple-goal game of the season and tied his single-game best. He also had two goals against RPI last season (December 16, 2007). Wingels also had two assists Sunday, giving him a career-best four points (2-2–4).• When scoring four or more goals, Miami has been nearly unbeatable under Coach Rico Blasi. Over the last 10 seasons, the RedHawks are 133-9-7 in those instances, a success rate of nearly 92 percent.• Miami improved its all-time series record against RPI to 5-1. The RedHawks have now won five straight against the Engineers, including two consecutive series sweeps.• With Miami’s x-x victory, CONNOR KNAPP improved his record to 7-1-1 on the year. He has won xxx straight games. His season goals-against average is x.xx and his saves percentage improves to .xxx.• Miami is now 11-0-1 this season when scoring first.• Miami has not trailed in any of the last seven games. The last time the RedHawks found themselves down a goal was in the first Michigan State game on Nov. 14. PAT CANNONE tied the score at 1-1 with a goal at 10:43 of the opening period, 369:17 ago.• Justin Mercier, playing in his (134th) career game, picked up the first goal of the game, his first in five games. He now has six goals on the year, tied for third most on the team. The score was also Mercier’s third in four career games against RPI.• Miami’s impressive third-period, home-ice shutout streak came to an end Sunday afternoon when RPI’s Bryan Brutlag scored a power-play goal at x:xx. RedHawk opponents had not found the Cady Arena net in the final 20 minutes since Ohio State scored with 29 seconds into the third in the season opener.
