Ryan Jones Scores First 2 Goals in NHL

Ryan Jones scored for the second straight game as the Nashville Predators beat the Blue Jackets 5-3 last night in Columbus, Ohio. Jones scored his first goal of the season and had one assist in Saturday’s 3-2 overtime loss to the Detroit Red Wings in Nashville.

Alumni update: Guerin’s 2-goal game lifts Pontebba

Forward Marty Guerin did not have a goal in his first seven games overseas, but he netted a pair for Pontebba (Italy) on Oct. 31 in a 3-2 win over Cortina.

Guerin scored with 1:10 left in the first period to tie the score, 1-1, then he notched his second less than three minutes into the second stanza to give Pontebba the lead, which is did not relinquish. Both goals were on the power play.

Frozen Four-bound Miami owes a debt to Devils defenseman Andy Greene

Devils defenseman Andy Greenewon’t be in Washington next week…or at least, he won’t be there in person.

However, as his alma mater, Miami University, prepares for its first-everNCAA Frozen Four, the mark Greene left on the RedHawk program is as indelible as ever.

“I know Andy’s been an NHL player for quite some time now, and removed from Miami,” RedHawks head coach Rico Blasi said, “but his No. 23, his leadership skill, and his ability on the ice, are still very much present today.

Miami Alum, Mitch Ganzak named to ECHL All-Rookie Team

The ECHL on Wednesday announced its All-Rookie Team for 2008-09 as determined in a vote of ECHL coaches, who were asked to select a goaltender, two defensemen and three forwards.

A rookie is defined as a player who has played in less than 25 professional games prior to the start of the current season.
