Former Captain Ryan Jones Traded to Nashville Predators

Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has acquired former Miami hockey standout Ryan Jones and a second-round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft from the Minnesota Wild for defenseman Marek Zidlicky.

Six Miamians Honored as NSCA All-Americans

The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) announced that six Miami University student-athletes have been honored with its annual All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year award. Ryan Jones (ice hockey), Joe Coniglio (football), Tim Pollitz (basketball), Jacqueline Lovato (synchronized skating), Halle Popson (softball), and Jeanna Staun (volleyball) were among a select group of 239 collegiate athletes nationwide to be honored by the NSCA.

Miami University Names Brent Brekke Assistant Hockey Coach

The Miami University hockey team has announced the hiring of Brent Brekke as an assistant coach.Brekke replaces Jeff Blashill, who recently took over as the general manager and head coach of the Indiana Ice of the United States Hockey League.

Golf Classic

Our first Miami Blue Line Club Golf Classic was a great success. The weather cooperated with us and brought us a sunny but windy day. Our volunteers arrived with an eagerness as they began setting everything up.

The players began arriving at 12:30 with clubs in hand ready to show their stuff. As players began to warm up others spent time looking over the array of door prizes. We had a good lunch and a few nice words from Coach Blasi before we hit the links.

Coach Blasi greeted everyone on the green at Hole #7. He added a nice touch to everyone’s experience showing off his putting skills. I would like to thank all the hockey players who took the time out of their day to play in the classic.

Our day ended with raffles and door prizes under the pavilion. I would just like to say I appreciate everyone who participated and supported the Miami Hockey program. We look forward to seeing everyone back at next year’s golf classic. - Perry Poppel
